CONVERSATION WITH DAPHNE (As Reported by Las Flores del Altiplano Alpacas):
Daphne: Why have I been out of work so long?
LF del A: Well…that’s not exactly true. We’ve made beautiful yarn from your fiber… we’ve hand painted some and it’s been crafted into hand knitted goods. People have snapped them up and raved about how luscious and soft it is. In fact, some of your yarn was just dyed with natural indigo and it’s gorgeous!
But through no fault of your own, it's true, you’ve been underemployed. You've only had one baby, back in 2011. And is he gorgeous!
As our breeding program took new turns, you became one of our best kept and most under utilized secrets.
Daphne: Yeah? So what are you going to do to fix that?
LF del A: We are going to tell the world of discerning alpaca breeders all about you, grit our teeth and offer to let them take you home, and put you to work for a breath taking reasonable price.
We love you and feel that this price doesn’t at all reflect your value to a quality breeding program.
However, it does represent an opportunity for a lucky breeder to obtain powerhouse genetics, bred to powerhouse genetics.
We’re going to elaborate, is that okay with you?
Daphne: I can’t wait!
For the Fiber Focused: Our Miss D is a fiber machine. Her blanket alone has yielded the following: beginning with her 2 year old shearing (we can’t seem to find numbers for her first), she has shorn, 5# 4#, 3#, 3.1# and this year at 6 years old, she sheared 3.3#. Daphne’s family on both sides, are huge producers. Her sire, CC Fandango's Masterpiece Vermeer, sheared 12# consistently.
We have done only 3 histograms on Daphne:
2009: (10mo old): 18/ 3.7/ 20.2 CF 99.7
2010: (22 mo old): 22/ 4.1/ 18.5 CF 96.5
2014: (70 mo old): 26.5 /5.1 /19.2 CF 80.8
We believe that the higher 2014 AFD, reflects environmental factors. After all Daphne has been essentially sitting around eating bon-bons (we feed well). Her very respectable CV and comfort factor are more telling. She retains a very nice staple length and character.
For the Lineage Focused: P-o-w-e-r house! She is 7/8 Peruvian, a descendant of some the greats (Caligula, Bueno, Fandango, Presidio, Andino, Pachacuti, Moustachio), and 1/8 Bolivian including Mr. Know it All.
Daphne is upright, proud and very correct.
She is from our most gentle maternal line... giving birth easily (with a high percentage of female births), producing tons of milk resulting, in great growth.
We have chosen to offer Daphne bred to our fine and dense, ribbon winning, fawn, Orlando’s Tracker Cloud. We realize that it has been some time since Daphne was bred, and we will guarantee her pregnancy.
Tracker has an absolutely gorgeous fleece. It positively glows. This baby should be something really special.
We believe Daphne should be given a prominent place in a discerning, fiber focused, breeding program.
